What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Techniques® (EFT®), sometimes referred to as “tapping,” is a collection of self-help techniques created by Gary Craig that relate to the mind-body connection. EFT incorporates acupressure at tapping points (similar to acupuncture, but without the needles) and mental-emotional focus.

To apply EFT, you use your fingertips to tap lightly on specific tapping points of the body’s meridians (or energy pathways) while focusing on an event or emotion. Essentially, you’re re-balancing your body’s energy system which allows you to quickly reduce the negative emotional and physical impact of memories, traumas, grief and past incidents that trigger emotional and physical distress. Once you reduce, remove or “reframe” the distress or trauma and allow your body to re-balance itself, you can accelerate its ability to heal itself. Most people experience rapid, long-lasting results.

The beauty of EFT tapping is that you don’t have to believe in it for it to work! Additionally:

  • It often works when nothing else will.
  • It doesn’t use drugs or equipment.
  • It is gentle, safe, painless and the results are normally long lasting.
  • It can be easily learned by anyone.
  • It is easily self-applied.
  • It can be used anytime, anywhere.

Many counselors and coaches incorporate EFT into their sessions. I’m one of nine EFT Founding Master practitioners in the United States (based in North Carolina) and have a unique adaptation of EFT® which I call The EGO Tamer® Tapping Technique (or TET Tapping). This spiritually-centered approach allows me to use inspiration and insights to reach the core issues that are causing you distress – and then “tap them away!”
